Friendship arrives without fanfare
No trumpet no scroll no announced arrival
Just a Tuesday afternoon
When someone stays
Five extra minutes
And the room feels different after that
It grows in the small mathematics of showing up
The third text you send when the first two go quiet
The screenshot sent at 2:17am that says
This made me think of you
The way you both pretend youre not crying
While watching the same stupid scene for the fourth time
We carry each others spare keys
Not always to houses
But to memories were too tired to hold alone
The childhood streetlight you still dream about
The sentence your father never finished saying
The version of yourself you buried under better lighting
Some friends are loud bonfires
Others are the low ember under ash
That still warms your hands hours later
When everyone else has gone home
You dont have to explain the shape of your hurt
To the ones who stay
They learned its outline
By sitting beside it long enough
That silence became its own language
And when the years stretch thin
And life begins to feel like loose change in deep pockets
Friendship is the stubborn hand that reaches in anyway
Pulls out whatevers left
And says
Look
Its still enough
To buy coffee
And another hour of not being alone
Heres to the ones who never demanded proof
That we were worth keeping
To the soft conspiracy of still being here
Still laughing at the same dumb joke
From 1989
Still answering the phone
Even when we both know
The voice on the other end
Is mostly static and apology
You are my favorite evidence
That not everything precious
Has to end loudly
Thank you
For choosing the long unglamorous road
Of still knowing me
And liking me anyway
Thats the poem friendship writes
Not in fireworks
In staying
